![]() ![]() Xcom has mods to help but it has a strong core to start from but Phoenix point is lacking a strong core (which isn't to say there isn't close), its missing features and polish that could have made this shine even years after its release as if the game we have now is close to the incomplete version we should have started with and upgraded from. This game is not an upgrade to Xcom it is a step back in so many ways especially tactics wise. If someone complains about the game they might be met with "you just don't use strategy" even when strategy in this game ends up playing out repetitively in each respective mission type but unlike Xcom I am not ambushing anyone, I am not exploding roofs to drop enemies down I am just getting barely anything from research to add to how I play. I will say that I feel this game is lacking in areas like gameplay options, clear class differentiation (as well as balancing which plays into that), the factions aren't interesting and rewards can be often underwhelming as well as overall upgrades. Maybe soldiers could have been more simple and more focused on strategy or gained more individuality, ability and diversity in weapons as the game went on. This shallow result is why I think this game isn't doing well, its mechanics are often as deep as a puddle and don't fit with what the game probably should have been. It's weird I have to ask if this game benefited from its soldier class system, the soldiers feel expendable given the bad trait system and poor customization and I see no clear reason why they went with the system they used other than it was Xcom like. This game gets boring fast, for what good it has its repetitive and surrounded by not fun stiff and boring gameplay. like wow what interesting enemy design its like there is a pattern in bad design choices in this game. The game itself has really is really bad with a replay experience, the same tutorial missions and if you have the dlc worrying about when you are going to have to deal with the Pure which are armored up and have a shield for the end of their turn which. I re-download it and remember after 5 seconds in and one level done why I stopped playing this game, it wasn't just the terrible mid game but the unremarkable character skills (and honestly a lack of skills in the first place I can't believe they didn't add more with updates or dlc). I would like to just leave a comment someone had on their AMA here "Julian and David, are you worried about running out of feet to shoot yourselves in?" I just think that's funny. Players are told to use the wiki and look up guides, I am sorry but thats a sign something is wrong with how this game is handled. A new player looks up what they are doing wrong in this game because of its strict and boring way to play only to be met with answers like "don't research because the enemy will grow much faster if you advance like the pace of the game suggests" This game is not only strict but new players are met with mixed answers on how to play and at times bad direction on how to actually play by the game itself. ![]() I mention the Epic games store because I feel its relevant to the lack of playerbase and mods, had this game not lost so many players and got more support as a smaller game with mods then things would be better but they took that money as if saying they were gonna do it themselves and that was gonna go back into the game, but now its still left unpolished and unplayed by many for good reason. I can say I didn't buy the game until much after the games release date when it was on sale (I mean I don't remember but I hope I didn't buy this full price) and when you start its new and its interesting but you quickly hit a wall because of this games mechanics and how little you know while being introduced to the game and how early you get introduced to absurd mission and enemies. There is no beating around the bush, this was unprecedented and was bad all around, not even mentioning AMA's with questions not being answered and other terrible PR. I first heard of this game from its PR nightmare where people backed it under a promise it was going to be on steam only for the creators to instead go to the Epic game store apparently approaching them not Epic approaching them which is pretty bad and actively betraying their backers with it being likely this game wouldn't have existed without the original promise that people gave money to in the first place. This game is dead or dying and its entirely because of how it was handled. I think the dwindling playerbase, mediocre dlc reviews at best and lack of mods that may have helped to explain this mess shows something with this game, that so few people actually have stayed around and come back to this game and its for a reason.
